Make Your Analog Phone an IP Phone

March 16, 2017

Even though VoIP communications is projected to grow by a compound annual growth rate of almost 10 percent until 2021, there are still many people around the world that still have analog telephone systems. The new HT801 analog telephone adapter (ATA) from Grandstream Networks has been designed to bring digital and analog worlds together seamlessly with a single FXS port along with many of the features VoIP (voice over IP) communications currently provides.

Grandstream Networks (News - Alert) creates SIP Unified Communications products and solutions designed to make organizations more productive with cost effective communications solutions. The open standard SIP-based IP phones and other products have wide interoperability to bring solutions from different vendors together while integrating robust security protocols to address the challenges of Internet connectivity.

The HT801 extends these features by providing VoIP functionalities, advanced security protection, and auto provisioning capabilities so business and residential users can continue using their analog phones and fax machines with VoIP networks.

In a form factor of only 100mm x 100mm x 29.5mm (3.93in x 3.93in x 1.1in), the HT801 packs a lot of features. It supports 1 SIP profile with redundant SIP server failover, a 10/100Mbps network port and 3-way conferencing per port. The HD voice codecs it supports include, G.711 with Annex I (PLC) and Annex II (VAD/CNG), OPUS, dynamic jitter buffer, and advanced line echo cancellation. The Fax Over IP supports T.38 compliant Group 3 Fax Relay up to 14.4kpbs and auto-switch to G.711 for Fax.

The other telephony features that can be access on analog devices are Caller ID display or block, call waiting, flash, blind or attended transfer, forward, hold, do not disturb and 3-way conference. It also supports advanced features such as call transfer, message waiting indication, multi-language prompts, flexible dial plan and more.

The HT801 essentially turns analog phones into IP phones. However, when it comes to functionalities and flexibility, today's IP phones have features that can integrate mobile devices, SMS, chat, audio and video conferencing and more.

"The HT801 carries on Grandstream’s legacy of producing the best ATAs in the world. Service providers, businesses and residential users across the globe have relied on our high-quality ATAs for almost 15 years. We are excited to now offer an updated 1 port ATA with a sleek design and much increased power to our customers," said David Li (News - Alert), CEO of Grandstream.

The HT801 is now available through Grandstream’s worldwide distribution channels.
